Far Far West
Eight developers made one of the year's best co-op shooters — a chaotic robo-cowboy extraction romp that earns every bit of its 96%.
Media
Every year a co-op shooter comes out of nowhere and eats everyone’s evenings. In 2026 that game is Far Far West — and the wild part is that a team of eight people made it. Evil Raptor (previously of Pumpkin Jack and Akimbot) launched into Early Access in April, sold half a million copies inside a couple of weeks, and landed at an Overwhelmingly Positive rating that it has barely budged from since.
Yee-haw, with mechs
You’re a bounty-hunting robot cowboy in a cursed Wild West of ghost trains, undead outlaws and steampunk mines. Each run follows a simple, addictive shape: take a contract, complete the objective, kill the boss, extract. What elevates it is movement — sliding, dashing and repositioning feel wonderful — and a build system where weapons and abilities combo in ways you keep wanting to test. Comparisons to Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic and Left 4 Dead come up constantly in reviews, and they’re fair: this sits comfortably in that company.
With four players and voice chat, it produces the exact brand of chaos those games are loved for.
The Early Access honesty
Roughly twelve months of Early Access are planned, and it shows in the edges: mission variety thins out over long sessions, and players are (reasonably) asking for more weapons, maps and enemy types — all of which the studio has committed to. Solo runs work, but this is a game built for a posse.
Verdict
Steam sits at Overwhelmingly Positive, 96% of 19,000+ reviews, with recent reviews holding around 93%. At $19.99, with a tiny team shipping updates fast, Far Far West is one of the easiest co-op recommendations of the year — round up three friends and go collect some bounties.
